Important Benaroya Concert Rehearsal Information:

  • Our rehearsal on March 6 will be at St. Catherine of Siena, 814 NE 85th St., Seattle. We'll meet in the gymnasium/social hall that sits in the center of the campus; it's very easy to find. This rehearsal is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will not include the orchestra. This is our only time to work on strictly choral problems, so it's very important that everyone be there promptly and ready to work hard for 3 hours!
  • Our rehearsal on March 13 will be at Three Points Elementary School, 7800 NE 28th St., Medina. We'll meet in the school cafeteria on the east end of the complex. This will be our only rehearsal with orchestra and soloists. It's very important that everyone be there promptly and ready to work hard for 3 hours! Rehearsal is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Please also be sure to incorporate Mark Adrian's notes into your score. You can download his notes (in PDF format) here.

for September 21, 2009

Welcome back to our returning members and greetings to our new members! Here are the announcements from our last rehearsal:

  • If you haven't done so, please register as soon as possible! (See below for registration procedures)
  • Andrea Miner has kindly volunteered to coordinate set-up and tear-down for each rehearsal. She needs at least 3 people to assist her, to arrive before rehearsal (at 6:15 p.m.) and stay after to set up chairs and stack them at the end of the night. Please see Andrea if you can help.
  • Our new rehearsal space is quite different than Baker Hall and even whispered conversations can carry across the room. Please refrain from engaging in noisy activities during announcements and while the conductor is speaking.
  • Announcements will be done differently at our rehearsals. Each rehearsal, all Chorale-related announcements should be written on the announcement form (download a PDF of the form here) and submitted to either your section leader or Peggy Thompson (Alto II) prior to the beginning of rehearsal. All non-related announcements and materials can be placed at a table in the front of the rehearsal room.
  • The Handbook will no longer be printed and distributed to the Chorale. A copy of the board roster is provided to all Chorale members with contact information. The Handbook can be accessed from the web or by downloading the PDF. If you need a hard copy of the Handbook, please let your section leader know or e-mail the Board (board@everettchorale.org).
  • Up-to-date rehearsal and performance schedules will be available on the Everett Chorale Member Google calendar. (A print out of the season's schedule is also available in PDF format.) There is also an Everett Chorale Concert Google calendar you can share with friends, co-workers, and family (it does not list rehearsal information).
  • Lee needs the next round of deposits for the Rome trip by the end of the month.
  • The Chorale will have CDs for sale from previous concerts at rehearsal.
  • Rehearsals will soon include not only the music for our Christmas concert, but Mozart's Requiem at Benaroya Hall in January. Please learn and practice the Christmas concert music now so we are ready to tackle Mozart later in the season.

for Monday, June 1, 2009

It's Concert Week! Some reminders:

    Rehearsal/Performance Times and Location
  • Our final rehearsal (not a dress rehearsal) is Friday, June 5th. The call is at 7pm, at the Everett Performing Arts Center. The Everett Performing Arts Center is on the corner of Everett and Wetmore. Enter from the loading dock in the alley about half a block from where we’ve rehearsed the past couple of weeks.
  • The call times for the Saturday performance will at 6PM while the call time for Sunday will be 2PM.
  • Dress Code
  • Make sure your dresses are clean and pressed.
  • Please wear black hose (no knee highs) and black shoes with no open toes. Comfortable, flat shoes are best.
  • Earrings should not exceed one inch in length and should not flash or otherwise attract attention.
  • A single strand pearl necklace to the neckline may be worn. It’s not required, but most wear them.
  • Refrain from wearing scented perfume or hair sprays which can trigger serious breathing problems in susceptible chorale members. This is also true for rehearsals.
  • Stage and Etiquette
  • Please do not enter the lobby area before the concert (after the doors open for the audience to enter) or during the break. Restrooms can be found back stage.
  • If curtains are not drawn, remember to carry your music in your left hand when entering or leaving the stage. Music should remain at your left side until Lee cues that it is to be raised or when he steps onto the podium. Just follow what everyone else does.
  • On the risers, the front rows need to step as far forward on the riser as possible (a step or two from the risers if you are standing on the floor). Otherwise, there isn't much room for those on the top rows.
  • Do not turn the page immediately at the end of a piece. This can be a distraction. It may be helpful to mark "end" to remind yourself not to turn the page. Also, watch "noisy page turns" particularly during soft sections of the music.
  • Use paper clips or tape flags to remind yourself of repeats, codas, etc.
  • Watch dynamics. Try to think about balance and blend, both within our section (don’t drown out those around you) and with other sections (especially when our section doesn’t have the melody).
  • Be mindful of cutoffs and don’t sing through rests.
  • No gum please!
