October 21, 2008

News Release

The 75-plus vocal choral ensemble, the Everett Chorale, takes the stage with flutist Jeffrey Cohan for this year's ever-popular holiday concerts, Children Go Where I Send Thee: A Christmas Celebration Around the World on December 6 at 7:30 p.m. and December 7 at 3 p.m.

According to the New York Times, Cohan can "play several superstar flutists one might name under the table" and has received international acclaim both as a modern flutist and as one of the foremost specialists on transverse flutes from the renaissance through the early 19th century.

This season's holiday concert will bring music from different countries across the globe to Everett, including pieces from the West Indies, Puerto Rico, France, Italy, and England. The concert also includes a compilation of Christmas-themed spirituals.

Some pieces will be familiar to many, such as Away in a Manger and Go Tell It On The Mountain. Others will offer the audience a new twist to beloved carols, such as One Horse Open Sleigh, which is the original version of today's popular Jingle Bells.

All pieces performed for this holiday concert were arranged by Robert DeCormier, an American conductor, arranger, and director, and a graduate of the Juilliard School. He has arranged music for many singers and groups, including Harry Belafonte and Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Everett Chorale Spring Concert Celebrates Children

February 28, 2008

News Release

The Everett Chorale's spring concert celebrates the joy of children with "It's A Small World" at the Everett Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 3:00 PM. Whether you're 6 or 96, this performance will delight all ages.

Chorale Director Lee Mathews is planning a different stage arrangement for the 70-voice choir with the use of platforms rather than risers and a slide presentation during some pieces. The concert features pieces with children as the central theme, including "I Am a Small Part Of The World," "Walk Together Children," "Children Of The Heavenly Father" and "I Am His Child."

The Snohomish Children's Choir, under the direction of Shelley Logan, will be the Chorale's featured guests for this performance. They will present several sets of American folk songs before joining the Chorale to perform the Disney classic "It's A Small World" which will include an audience sing-along for everyone's enjoyment.

Mathews has also programmed a set of choral pieces designed to teach school children the basic concepts of choral singing. By using Ed Harris' "I Am A Voice In The Choir", the vocal parts soprano, alto, tenor and bass are introduced along with the terms solo, duet, trio and quartet in a humorous and delightful manor. Three pieces about horses, including Aaron Copland's "The Little Horses", are used to further explain other musical terms such as unison, harmony, tempo, and dynamics.

See our tickets page for purchasing information or call the Everett Performing Arts Center at 425-257-8600 or toll free 1-888-257-3722 or visit the box office (2710 Wetmore Ave Everett, WA 98201) between 11 AM and 7 PM Tuesday through Saturday.

The Everett Chorale is Snohomish County's premiere vocal ensemble and is comprised of singers from Everett and the surrounding area. Last year, the Chorale represented the State of Washington by performing at the 2007 International Choral Festival in Beijing, China.
